Returning Clarkston campus students walking by The Signal office may have noticed a significant change this fall.

That change is in the form of a 7′ by 7′ audio isolation booth. GSTV Technical Advisor Casey Williams installed the device over the summer with the goal of allowing Perimeter College students to pursue audio recording endeavors such as podcasting.

This new asset is one of several recruiting tools for Perimeter’s new Student Media Advisor, Zoana Price.

Price comes to Georgia State University with a diverse range of experience educating youth. She has worked for several organizations dedicated to empowering children and teenagers to create new media, including KIDSTV and SoireeZ. She also co-founded E.Y.E. Inc. (Empowering Young Entertainers), a non-profit organizations that assists youth with creating web, television and film projects.

I am extremely excited about working with students to increase the visibility of the Perimeter campuses. The enthusiasm of students is contagious and I’m looking forward to seeing their contributions.

She is also hitting the ground running with a series of Open Houses across various Perimeter campuses. Students can learn more by visiting the calendar function on the Panther Involvement Network site. At those events, Price is hoping to successfully recruit applicants for Bureau Chief positions for each of the College’s locations.

The Signal’s Clarkston office is the Perimeter College headquarters for students looking to get involved with Student Media. In its prior incarnation as the office for Georgia Perimeter College’s Collegian newspaper, print was the primary concern and multimedia was secondary. However, students today are excited to broaden their horizons across various platforms.

Williams believes the audio recording booth, in addition to re-networked computer setup, will allow Perimeter College students to do just that.

(The booth) is an amazing tool for recording audio that you can’t just buy online and have shipped to your home. It’s also just one of the ways to ensure students at Clarkston have equipment, opportunity, and knowledge that they need to start producing new media.
