Jeff Walker retires as WRAS Operations Manager

The most recognizable voice of WRAS-Atlanta has signed off.

On June 30, 2014, Jeff Walker completed his final day as the Operations Manager and Adviser for WRAS-Atlanta. He will remain as Georgia State University’s Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs Administration until his retirement later this month.

Walker  (B.S. ’83, M.S. ’88) served as General Manager for WRAS during his time as a WRAS student and was highly instrumental in advocating for the station’s move from 19,500 watts to 100,000 watts in the Spring of 1987. While beginning his career as a full-time employee for the university, Walker assumed Operation Manager duties of the station, eventually serving 38 years with Album 88.

In addition to his role as Operations Manager, Walker returned to the WRAS airwaves in 2012 to reprise his 1980s program, Reeling in the Years, a show he continued to host until May 2014. You can listen to Jeff Walker’s on-air thoughts from his final Reeling episode here. He also wrote reflections on WRAS for GSU Magazine 2013 edition commemorating GSU’s centennial.

Walker was also an active member of the National Federation of Community Broadcasters and assisted with its 2008 NFCB conference in Atlanta.
